Bard Access Systems Announces the Launch of Smaller Catheters
The next big thing in PICCs is SMALL.
At Bard Access Systems, we believe that smaller-diameter* PICCs can make a difference.
We are excited to announce the launch of PowerPICC® Provena™ catheters: a complete family of smaller-diameter PICCs that maintain high performance for infusion therapy. Proprietary polyurethane technology and engineering expertise allowed us to develop 3, 4, and 5 Fr catheters that are small on size and big on performance.
- 3 Fr single lumen – 3 ml/sec max flow rate
- 4 Fr dual lumen – 5 ml/sec max flow rate
- 5 Fr triple lumen – 5 ml/sec max flow rate
PowerPICC® Provena™ catheters provide clinicians with a variety of options to meet their preferred catheter-to-vein ratio. When determining the appropriate VAD, industry guidelines recommend selecting the configuration with the smallest outer diameter for the prescribed therapy:
“The VAD selected is of the smallest outer diameter with the fewest number of lumens and is the least invasive device needed for the prescribed therapy.” —Infusion Nurses Society
Go small. Think BIG.

Indications for Use
PowerPICC® Provena™ Catheter - 3 Fr single lumen and 4 Fr dual lumen catheters
The PowerPICC® Provena™ Catheters are indicated for short or long-term peripheral access to the central venous system for intravenous therapy, blood sampling, power injection of contrast media, and allows for central venous pressure monitoring. For central venous pressure monitoring, it is recommended that a catheter lumen of 20 gauge or larger be used.
Catheter Size/Maximum Flow Rate
- 3 Fr Single Lumen/3 mL/sec
- 4 Fr Dual Lumen/5 mL/sec
PowerPICC® Provena™ Catheter - 5 Fr triple lumen catheters
The PowerPICC® Provena™ catheter is indicated for short or long term peripheral access to the central venous system for intravenous therapy, power injection of contrast media, and allows for central venous pressure monitoring. For blood sampling, infusion, or therapy use a 4 French or larger catheter. The maximum recommended infusion rate is 5 mL/sec for power injection of contrast media. For central venous pressure monitoring, it is recommended that a catheter lumen of 20 gauge or larger be used.
