What’s Happening

Congress is working right now to develop legislation that will replace the Affordable Care Act (ACA). It is imperative to let your Representatives and Senators know that they must not repeal the ACA without a plan to ensure that people keep the protections they currently have. No matter your political views, changes to the ACA can affect everyone, and we want to make sure our community is protected.

How This Affects People with Primary Immunodeficiency

People with primary immunodeficiency diseases (PI) and other rare, chronic conditions rely on protections established by the ACA. We cannot lose the gains we have made in healthcare access. Congress needs to know that they must maintain current protections of the healthcare system that:

  • Ensure access to affordable, comprehensive insurance and necessary treatments for people with pre-existing conditions;
  • Prohibit annual and lifetime caps on insurance coverage; and
  • Continue limits on annual out-of-pocket costs.

How You Can Help

There are ways you can help:

1. Sign up for IDF Action Alerts.

IDF Action Alerts are automated notifications that you receive from IDF asking you to contact your representatives when there is an issue impacting the PI community, whether on the national, state or local level.

We make it easy for you. The notification you receive has the e-mail you send your legislators written and ready for you—all you do is personalize it and send! Sign up for IDF Action Alerts: www.primaryimmune.org/action-alerts.

2. Share the message on your social media accounts.

Tell your friends and followers about this issue and how it affects you! Sample post are below, but we encourage to personalize with your story. Copy, paste and get the word out!

  • Without the protections established under the #ACA, individuals like me in the primary immunodeficiency (PI) community will not have access to the care we need to live healthy and productive lives. As you consider elements of a new healthcare law, please ensure that any new plan must ensure access to affordable, comprehensive insurance and necessary treatments for people with pre-existing conditions; prohibit annual and lifetime caps on insurance coverage; and continue limits on annual out-of-pocket costs. Don’t repeal without a replacement that provides protections the PI community needs.
